CONVOCATORIA

Since 1987, the Don Quixote Iconographic Museum has contributed to the promotion of art and culture in the state of Guanajuato and throughout Mexico through its collection, part of a patrimony and spirit which belongs to the entire world. This museum, unique among the more than 40 thousand in the world, owes its existence to Eulalio Ferrer Rodríguez, President of Fundación Cervantina de México, who generously donated his collection of art on the theme of Don Quixote and the characters of Cervantes's immortal novel. The Guanajuato State Government has provided the museum building, and is responsible for museum administration and maintenance.

At almost twenty years since its inauguration, the museum has become an important cultural institution, now involved in the creation of the Centro de Estudios Cervantinos, A.C., also located in the city of Guanajuato. Additionally, the museum helps organize the International Cervantine Colloquium, which to date has held 16 colloquia in which well-known Cervantes scholars, humanists, professors, researchers, writers and artists from all over the world have participated.

Over 800 pieces are on display in the museum's historic building in downtown Guanajuato, including oil and acrylic paintings, engravings, bronze sculptures, handcrafts and ceramics. This collection continues to grow thanks to contributions from Fundación Cervantina de México. The museum showcases the paintings of Antonio Rodríguez Luna, Carlos Mérida, Rafael Coronel, Eduardo Pissano, José Guadalupe Posada, Francisco Capdevilla, Salvador Dalí, Alberto Gironella, Alfredo Salce, José Chávez Morado, Elvira Gascón, Benito Messeguer, Francisco Icaza, Francisco Corzas, Jesús Reyes, José Luis Cuevas, Eduardo Arroyo, and the murals of Pedro Coronel, Gabriel Flores and Raúl Anguiano, among others. The museum's Patio of Sculpture includes pieces by Sebastián, Nierman, Federico Silva, Fernando Péreznieto and Víctor Gutiérrez.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: International Cervantine Colloquium, National Print Competition, Youth Painting and Drawing Contest, recitals, concerts, publications, lectures, literary presentations, temporary exhibitions, films and children's workshops.
