The production of handmade ceramics and pottery is a tradition that has been carefully maintained. Guanajuato is home to internationally renowned workshops where the production of authentic majolica ware and traditional pottery such as large earthenware jars, plates, spice containers, bowls and basins make for irresistible buys.

In downtown craft shops, one can still find silver and gold jewelry, including the traditional pajarito (little bird) design jewelry, and what is known as baroque silverware.

In various regional candy stores, one can sample delicious traditional candies including: cream and coconut candies, dried fruits and preserves, or the famous coconut and peanut candy twists in the shape of mummies.
