Guanajuato's enthusiastic residents have made the city into a stage for art and culture. Guanajuato has earned a reputation for events such as the short comic plays of Cervantes, the Cervantino Festival for which the city is known internationally, its university and many institutes, visual arts, the symphony, city museums, plazas and theaters. Mimes and jugglers are a common sight, and strolling minstrels guide visitors along the city's winding, narrow streets, their joyful music carrying above high colonial walls.
